In short: you can try WhoAppChat without giving us your name or email. We collect what is needed to run chats, take payments and keep people safe. We do not sell personal information. Other people in a chat can see and hear what you share. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your data at any time.
What does this policy cover?
It covers WhoAppChat: the website, its mobile browser version, text, audio and video matching, plus the purchases and support that come with them. It forms part of the Terms of Service. If a feature needs extra information, we say so on the screen that asks for it.
What do you collect?
What you give us
- An email address, display name and password, if you create an account. Trying the service does not need these.
- Messages you send to support.
- Payment details when you buy coins. Payment providers handle these, and we do not store full card numbers.
What your device tells us
- Device type, operating system, browser and the identifiers needed to run a session.
- Pages visited, features used, how long a session lasts and the page that sent you here.
- An approximate location from your IP address, and a more precise one only if you allow it.
- Server logs: IP address, access times and system events.
What other services tell us
- If you sign in with a third-party provider, your name, email and picture from that provider.
- Aggregated or anonymised statistics from analytics providers.
Why do you need it?
- To connect you with another person and keep the chat running.
- To process purchases and keep your coin balance right.
- To keep people safe: spot abuse, enforce the house rules and review reports.
- To answer your messages and fix problems.
- To learn what works so we can improve the service.
- To meet legal duties and protect our rights.
We do not sell your personal information.
Who sees what I say in a chat?
The person you are matched with, and only for as long as the chat lasts. They can see and hear everything you share, and we cannot control what they do with it, even though recording and republishing are against the rules. The most dependable protection is not saying anything you would regret seeing elsewhere.
If you report a chat, we review the relevant information to act on the report. We may also review activity, automatically or by hand, where that is reasonably needed to keep the service safe.
Do you use cookies?
Yes, a few. Cookies are small files that your browser stores for us.
- Essential ones keep sessions, security and sign-in working.
- Performance ones give us anonymous usage statistics.
- Functional ones remember choices such as language and display options.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Switching some off may stop parts of the service from working.
Who else receives my data?
- Service providers that help us run the site, such as hosting, payments and analytics, under confidentiality duties.
- Authorities and courts when the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of WhoAppChat, its users or the public.
- A future owner if the business is merged, reorganised or sold, as part of that deal.
- Anyone you tell us to share with, when you consent.
- The public, but only as aggregated figures that cannot reasonably identify you.
How long do you keep it?
For as long as we need it to provide the service, meet legal duties, settle disputes and enforce our terms. With an account, that means while the account is active. After you delete an account we remove or anonymise personal data within a reasonable time, unless the law obliges us to keep some of it, for example for tax or regulatory reasons.
What can I ask you to do?
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- Send you a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or incomplete.
- Delete your information, subject to legal exceptions.
- Give you a portable copy of your data.
- Limit how we use your data in certain cases.
- Stop marketing messages, which you can also do with the unsubscribe link.
Write to support[at]whoappchat.com (replace [at] with @). We answer within a reasonable time and in line with the law that applies to you.
Is it for children?
WhoAppChat is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone below the age the law requires. If you think someone too young has used it, tell us through the contact page and we will act.
How do you protect it?
With technical and organisational measures such as encrypted connections and limited access. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection. You help by using a strong password if you have an account and keeping your browser up to date. Outside services we rely on, such as payment providers, have their own privacy practices, and it is worth reading their notices too.
What if this policy changes?
We update it when the service or the law changes. For material changes we revise the date at the top and may tell you on the site. Carrying on after an update means you accept the new version.
How do I reach you?
Write to support[at]whoappchat.com (replace [at] with @) or use the contact page. If you would like to see how a chat works in practice first, how WhoAppChat works walks through it.
